Parc naturel du Jorat
Nature discovery park since 2021
Located in the Jorat forest massif, the Jorat Nature Park is a biodiversity area on the doorstep of Lausanne. Classified as a park of national importance in 2021 by the Swiss Confederation, it is the first peri-urban nature park in French-speaking Switzerland.
The diverse landscape of the Jorat Nature Park features valleys, gorges, waterfalls, and wetlands. The park covers an area of 9.3 km², including a protected zone of 4.4 km², which accounts for 10% of the Jorat forest massif. In this protected area, nature is left to evolve freely, allowing the forest’s life cycle to progress without human intervention. This process promotes biodiversity and provides habitats for many species reliant on deadwood. Surrounding the protected area is a transition zone designed to implement active measures for enhancing and promoting natural resources. This is also where visitor facilities and discovery activities related to Jorat’s natural and cultural heritage are concentrated.
The Jorat Nature Park focuses on four main missions that guide its initiatives and actions: preserving and enhancing biodiversity, welcoming and educating visitors, supporting the sustainable use of Jorat’s resources, and promoting scientific research. These commitments aim to protect and showcase this unique environment while raising awareness among visitors.
