Parc régional Chasseral - Pastured woodlands are a typical feature of the Jura landscape. Groups of trees and meadows alternate and reflect the interaction of man and nature, They are used for agriculture and serve both cattle and forest management.

Typical of the Jura mountain range, the wooded pastures are spread throughout the massif, mainly at an altitude of between 900 and 1400 m. Their origin dates back to the Middle Ages when these areas began to be colonised. Settlers began to clear the forests, grazing their livestock on the areas reclaimed from the forest. Woodland pastures provide a rich and varied habitat for many plants and animals, which find food, shelter and territory. In recent decades, they have become increasingly popular for leisure activities and for their landscape aspect. They represent a strong identity value for the inhabitants of the Jura Arc.
