Naturpark Pfyn-Finges - Among all the insects that enliven the ponds and channels in the Pfyn forest, the dragonflies are definitely the most elegant and easiest to observe. There are two types of dragonfly in the forest: The small dragonfly and the large dragonfly.

The dragonflies in the forest of Pfyn/Finges can be classified into two distinguishable groups: the Zygoptera (small dragonflies), known in common parlance as Wasserjungfern (damsel flies), and the Anisoptera, the larger dragonflies. The following species can be observed: the common winter dragonfly, the azure damselfly, the variable damselfly, the common blue damselfly, the blue-tailed damselfly, the black darter, the emerald damselfly, the emerald, the green-eyed hawker, not to forget the blue emperor and many more...
The mating procedure for dragonflies is particularly impressive and displays many particularities. The male holds the female firmly by her neck with his abdominal claws during the mating wheel. The female holds the male by the abdomen with her legs and guides the end of her abdomen to the male's seminal vesicle.
