Naturpark Pfyn-Finges - Discover wine and water between Sierre and Salgesch. The walk goes from Sierre past the Gironde Lake and along the wild Rhone to Salgesch. A wine-tasting stop at one of the wine partner companies is well worthwhile.
From Sierre railway station we pass through residential areas between ponds and the Gironde Lake through to the vineyards. After passing the industrial quarter of Île Falcon, we finally reach the trail that leads us along the freely flowing Rhone as far as Salgesch. Along this section there are frequently spectacular views of the continually changing river landscape to be appreciated. The section of the river could never be channelled, because the Illgraben, which lies to the east, continually transports new rock material into the Rhone.
We follow the Rhone until Salgesch and then cross the Russubrunnu, which has been naturally upgraded by the A9 motorway compensation measures. Nature Park partner companies produce park wine in Salgesch, which must satisfy strict criteria for sustainable cultivation and production. The Nature and Landscape Centre, the administrative centre of the Nature Park, is here, and also houses an exhibition. Guided excursions possible: www.weinwanderungen.ch
For the hike from Salgesch railway station to the bus stop "Sierre, Ile Falcon" there are:
Route 3 km
Running time 45 minutes
Ascent 10 meters
Descent 50 meters

The Vine and Wine Museum, Sierre - Salgesch is devoted to viticulture. The 2 exhibitions in the Zumofenhaus and the Château Villa deal with differnt topics, but they are linked with a 6-km long nature trail and as such also form one entity.
The only section of the Rhone that could not be channelled, because of the constant flow of debris from the Illgraben!
The forest of Pfyn/Finges nature reserve is the centrepiece of the regional nature park Pfyn/Finges. The forest of Pfyn/Finges has been officially protected since 1997, after it had already been included in the KLN inventory in 1963.
