Parc naturel régional Gruyère Pays-d'Enhaut - From the Allières relay station to the Montbovon crossroads
This trail begins in the hamlet of Allières in the Hongrin Valley and involves a pleasant and gentle descent through forests and across meadows. Before setting off towards Montbovon, it is well worth sampling some regional cuisine at the Auberge de La Croix de Fer.
From Allières station, the trail follows the road, then turns on to the old path which leads through the forest to the Pont du Pontet. The stone bridge over the Hongrin river, which already featured on a map from 1578, is the earliest documented structure of its kind in the canton of Fribourg. Restoration work in 1993 uncovered the original paving, which still bore the ruts made by cart wheels. From the bank of the river, the path leads to a mountain terrace offering uninterrupted views of the Intyamon valley and the Dent de Corjon. In summer, flowers blanket the meadows.
Before long, you will reach Montbovon, the day's final destination. This little village, nestled deep in the valley, was first recorded in 1255. Due to its location, Montbovon has always been an important intersection linking the Gruyère region, the Pays-d'Enhaut and the Lake Geneva region. It has two railway lines, the first built by the MOB (1903), the second by GFM, now TPF (1904).

It can already be observed on a map from 1578. Threatening to crumble and fall, the bridge was restored 1993. During this restoration work the original paving was rediscovered revealing ruts characteristic of horse-drawn cart passage.
Allières with its inn (former cabaret), is located on the Jaman Pass mule trail.
Cited as early as 1255, Montbovon has long been a busy crossroads. Located along the Sarine, it is the junction of the roads of three worlds: the Gruyère, the Pays-d’Enhaut, and the Lake Geneva basin. This crossroads is also emphasized by the meetin...
