Abgeleitet vom Fluss Entle bedeutet Entlebuch "die Hervorstrudelnde". Gleich energievoll ist sodann auch das Engagement der Gemeinde für zukunftsfähige Energie oder für Operettenaufführungen der örtlichen Theatergesellschaft.
Wo während des Bauernkrieges Christian Schybi gegen die Willkürherrschaft der Stadt Luzern kämpfte oder wo unter Kronenbögen die Pferdepost zwischen Bern und Luzern die Wechselstation hatte, dort liegt das «Grenzdorf» Escholzmatt.
Am Fusse der majestätischen Schrattenfluh liegt das Dorf Marbach. Dort wurde im 19. Jahrhundert Milchzucker produziert und die Lourdes Grotte erbaut, als Nachbildung derjenigen im südfranzösischen Lourdes.
