14 Upper Hilly Landscape Gravel Loop: Schwarzenburg – Riggisberg

Bicycle tour
Time required: 4 hours 30 minutesLength: 57.97 km

Naturpark Gantrisch - Up into the hilly landscape, over meadows, pastures, and through forests. On this varied circular route, we also cross the most diverse villages such as Rüschegg, Riggisberg, and Rüeggisberg.

Past Schwarzenburg castle, the route follows the village stream. The ascent to Riffenmatt takes place via Riedstätt along the road to Kalchstätten, over field paths to Sand, and via paved roads to Neuenmatt. The view gradually broadens towards the Central Plateau and Jura. Shady forest roads lead from above Riffenmatt through the Scheidwald down to Rüschegg Heubach, the settlement center of the extensive municipality. You immediately dive back in and climb up into the Längeney forest. Then you cross the Biberzen over one of the wooden bridges before the route follows the Veloland route 37 on paved side roads to Riggisberg. In clear weather, the snow-covered mountains of the Bernese Oberland become visible. Riggisberg offers shopping and dining options. Until the Abegg Foundation, you continue following the bike route out of the village, which you then leave via the farm groups Ey and Hasli towards Taanwald. Through the shady Taanwald, you reach the Than viewpoint. The panoramic route continues via Mättiwil towards Rueggisberg and Schwanden. A rapid descent brings us down to the lowest point of the tour, where we cross the Schwarzwasser in the Wislisau. Along the river with lovely rest and, depending on water level, swimming spots, you reach the hamlet Rüschegg-Graben. On a farm road, we now ride again on a marked bike route, this time the national number 4. Riding over Henzischwand and Elisried in the direction of Schwarzenburg, you avoid the main road and thus reach the starting point Schwarzenburg across a wide plain.
