Riggisalp Trail (SchweizMobil 285)

Snowshoe route
Time required: 1 hour 55 minutesLength: 4.04 km

Naturpark Gantrisch - Although located in the Pre-Alps, on the Riggisalp snowshoe route you get the feeling of being in high alpine regions. This is because the route is framed by the two mighty Schwarzsee local mountains: Kaiseregg and Spitzfluh.

The snowshoe tour starts at the Gypsera parking lot in Schwarzsee. Gypsera can also be reached by half-hourly bus connections from Tafers, Plaffeien, and Freiburg. Away from the hectic ski operations, hikers now ascend to the Riggisalp below the mighty Kaiseregg. The initially steep but wide hiking trail leads past alpine huts, over pastures, and through the forest steadily upwards. Soon a fantastic view opens over the mostly frozen and snow-covered lake and the Schwarzsee valley. The path follows the old mule track towards Euschel Pass. This Freiburger mule pass, also called "Röstipass," connects the village of Jaun in the south with Schwarzsee in the north. After the Unter Bödelii alpine pasture, another section of forest is crossed. Then the trail leaves the wide path and continues off-trail over the pasture, past the snow-covered alpine huts of the Mitzlere alpine pasture. The view of the two mighty Schwarzsee local mountains, Kaiseregg and Spitzfluh, creates the feeling that you are not in the Pre-Alps, but in a high alpine region. Soon the highest point of the tour is reached with the elevation of Riggisalp. Other peaks of the Freiburger Pre-Alps, the white peaks of Spitzfluh, Chörblispitz, and Combifluh, also become visible.

At the top, at the mountain station of the Riggisalp chairlift, skiers and snowboarders are already waiting on the sun terrace of the restaurant. Here you can reward yourself with a typical Freiburger fondue moitié-moitié or another regional specialty. Free of charge, there is again the magnificent view over the Schwarzsee valley and the surrounding mountain peaks.

Downhill, you can comfortably ride the two-person chairlift. Those who want to avoid the ascent can also simply take the chairlift up to Riggisalp and snowshoe down from there. This also makes the Riggisalp trail an experience, with even less physical effort.
