Naturpark Pfyn-Finges - The Turtmann Valley: wild and romantic a testament to its glacier
Open larch woods, sun-bronzed settlements and dreamy hamlets give Turtmann valley a wild and romantic character. The trail to the glacier over the right valley shoulder rises steeply through open larch woodland to above the tree line. There the view opens up to the four-thousand-metre peaks and the Turtmann glacier, which formed this mighty U-shaped valley. Soon you see the different moraines that were left by the last glacial advance around 1870. Between the reservoir and glacier you can observe a rich pioneer flora that is slowly populating the barren stone deserts. The ascent to the Turtmann Hut takes you into the world of the mountaineers and alpinists.
For the return journey you can follow the alpine road as far as Hinter Sänntum and then the valley track along the side of the Turtmänna River.
