Naturpark Gantrisch -

This circular hike leads from Riffenmatt, the crossroads, around the Schwendelberg and through the legendary village of Guggisberg.

The winter hiking trail starting from Riffenmatt is not a typical one, as it mostly leads along black-cleared roads. Apart from non-slip hiking boots, no other equipment is required. From Riffenmatt, the trail follows the little road to the hamlet of Saalen with its beautiful farmhouses.

The church with its late Gothic tower, baroque organ in the gallery and colourful stained glass windows is well worth a visit. From the church terrace, the view towards the Schwarzsee region is unobstructed. Leave the village on the hiking trail towards Sand. The view opens up towards Plaffeien and the Fribourg countryside. From Sand via Wahlenhus to before Neuenmatt, the little road now runs along the shady north side of the Guggershörnli and Schwendelberg. In good weather, the view from this terrace extends over the whole of Schwarzenburgerland, towards Bern and as far as the Jura. Similar to the Emmental, a landscape shaped by water with ditches and streams lies before us. Settlements and fields lie on the hard Nagelfluh terraces. The steeper sections are mostly covered with forest. Our route leaves the little road before Neuenmatt. Through the hopefully snow-covered fores
