Diemtigtal house route "Mittleres Tal"
Naturpark Diemtigtal - The municipality of Diemtigen was awarded the Louis Wakker Prize 30 years ago for its building culture and planning. The "Mittleres Tal" house route takes you to the most magnificent examples in the middle of the valley.
The municipality of Diemtigen has succeeded, through farsighted local planning, in preserving the settlement character of the valley in an exemplary manner. It was awarded the Henri-Louis-Wakker Prize by the Swiss Heritage Society in 1986.
The oldest houses in Diemtigtal date from the 16th century. However, the landscape is mainly shaped by buildings from the second half of the 18th century and the early 19th century. Diemtigtal owes its magnificent stock of buildings to the collaboration of wealthy farmers and skilled craftsmen, including the famous master carpenter Hans Messerli (1720-1806).
The three house routes "Vorderes Tal", "Mittleres Tal", and "Hinteres Tal" show you the impressive houses and their stories.

Signalization
Follow the Diemtigtal house route from the postbus stop "Chirel" in Horboden and cross the street. The path leads you to the high plateau Entschwil, where magnificent architecture and a surprising view await you. From here, continue via Riedern, Rothbad to two more impressive buildings in the Simmental style at Walkenmatte. Over Houeten you will soon start the descent. At Wattfluh you will find the last house of the circular route before returning to the valley road in Horboden. The path is marked with brown directional signs.
If you like, you can walk from Horboden in about 45 minutes along the valley hiking trail to Wampflen. There you will find an old mill, formerly with a bakery. An old millstone in the paving between the residential house and the barn indicates the original function of the house.
