The cooperation destination nature

With the public transport to the Swiss parks

Environmentally friendly travel and slow tourism: with Destination Nature, the Swiss parks work together with public transport companies to offer you great experiences.

What is Destination Nature?

Destination Nature is a partnership aimed at promoting environmentally friendly mobility and sustainable tourism. Its goal is to make traveling to and from the Swiss parks by public transportation more appealing and nature and landscape experiences in these parks more accessible. At the same time, the initiative encourages visitors to choose public transportation over private cars, thereby reducing private motorized traffic in sensitive natural and recreational areas. To this end, the Swiss Parks Network collaborates with public transport companies and nature conservation organizations to make travel to Switzerland’s most beautiful natural regions as easy, comfortable, and climate-friendly as possible. Public transportation is viewed not only as a means of transport but also as an integral part of the overall vacation and leisure experience.

History of Destination Nature

Destination Nature cooperation originated in Germany. The initiative was founded there in 2001 by the environmental organizations BUND, NABU, and VCD, in collaboration with Deutsche Bahn.

In Graubünden, this inspired the establishment of the regional Destination Nature in 2016. For ten years, the Swiss Parks Network, together with the Graubünden parks, the Swiss Transport Club (VCS), the Graubünden Bird Protection Association, the Rhaetian Railway, and PostAuto Graubünden, worked together to promote environmentally friendly mobility and sustainable tourism in the Swiss National Park, Parc Ela, Beverin Nature Park, Biosfera Val Müstair, and Parco Val Calanca.

In 2020, the collaboration was expanded nationwide Swiss Federal Railways (SBB), PostAuto Switzerland, the Swiss Transport Club (VCS), Swiss Bird Protection SVS/BirdLife Switzerland (until 2024), and the Swiss Parks Network established the national steering committee for Destination Nature Switzerland. This body advocates for attractive and innovative public transport options for travel to and from Swiss parks and works to position public transportation as an integral part of the nature and vacation experience.

In early 2026, the regional partnership Destination Nature Graubünden was dissolved. Regional collaboration on mobility continues through the Graubünden Parks Association. The national steering committee of the Destination Nature cooperation remains unaffected by this change and continues to operate.
