Safety advices

Two sections run along roads with vehicle traffic and no sidewalks; please be mindful of other road users in these areas.

Signalization

In Villigen, start by following the road toward Döttingen before turning left and following the brown “Flösserweg” signs diagonally uphill toward Rebberg. Unlike the Flösserweg, stay on the paved road (Rebmattweg), which continues westward after a 180-degree curve.

After a few hundred meters, you’ll cross a small bridge to reach the main road toward Rotberg. Follow this road to the right, slightly uphill (unfortunately, there’s no sidewalk—watch out for traffic!). After about 200 meters, you’ll have passed the parking garage on your left and can turn left toward the Gabenkopf quarry.

The paved road, with virtually no traffic, leads you first gently and then more steeply uphill to the Gabenkopf Quarry, which is operated by Holcim.

Before the (private) plant entrance, turn right onto the forest road. You still have 40 meters of elevation gain to cover to reach the highest point. Follow the path straight ahead for another 300 meters or so. Then turn right and descend through two hairpin curves.

Continuing along the main trail, you’ll reach the north-facing valley, which leads you directly to the entrance of Hottwil. Be careful on the main road—there are many motorcyclists here. Once you arrive in Hottwil, you can take a stroll through the tranquil farming village or stop for a bite to eat at the Gasthaus Bären.
