Wegenstetten: Flederhaus
Jurapark Aargau - Spend the night with the whole family in the "Bat House," a historic building designated as a historical monument. In the evening, you can watch the bats flying in and out of the garden.
To save one of the last colonies of this endangered bat species—as well as the farmhouse, which was facing ruin—the "Vacances au cœur du patrimoine" foundation, Pro Natura Aargau, and Jurapark Aargau joined forces on a unique project. The "Bat House" was originally designed as an inn, explaining its distinctive layout, high-ceilinged rooms, and grand stove. However, immediately after its completion in 1803, the building began serving as a farmhouse and a stopover for travelers; today, it stands as an important example of regional architectural and domestic heritage.
A holiday apartment has been created within this historic residence, allowing up to six guests to vacation in a protected heritage building. The house takes its name from the bats that have made their home in the barn's attic. This is where the Greater Horseshoe Bat—an endangered species championed by Pro Natura Aargau—establishes its summer nursery colony; at dusk, the bats can be observed flying in and out from the garden.
