16 Guggershörnli Gravel Loop

Bicycle tour
Time required: 3 hours 10 minutesLength: 37.13 km

Naturpark Gantrisch - The gravel loop route leads from Plaffeien over the Sense River into the canton of Bern to Schwarzenburg and back via Riffenmatt, the Ägertewald through Zollhaus again over the Sense to Freiburg. The route mostly runs over hilly side roads, forest paths, and past farms and small villages. Throughout the entire route, you have repeated clear views of the Guggershörnli.

From Plaffeien village you ride on paved roads towards the Guggersbach bridge and cross the Sense River. Then it goes up on asphalt and gravel roads to Kalchstätten. Now it descends towards Schwarzenburg and along the village stream. Arriving in Schwarzenburg is roughly halfway and it is recommended to visit the small charming village center and enjoy a refreshment. From Schwarzenburg, continue along bike route 501 to Riffenmatt. The ascent is partly steep and takes place on side roads past small hamlets with beautiful views towards the Bernese Alps.

From Riffenmatt, it goes directly into the Buechwald and Ägertewald on quiet gravel roads downhill towards Zollhaus. Back in the canton of Fribourg, we follow Schwarzseestrasse to Plaffeien. This section can be very busy on weekends. Upon arrival in Plaffeien, the route passes by Juscht’s Brewery, the perfect place to end the gravel route.
