Col des Mosses – La Lécherette

Hiking trail
Time required: 3 hours 30 minutesLength: 9.80 km

Parc naturel régional Gruyère Pays-d'Enhaut - A legacy of the last ice ages.

The trail begins in the Col des Mosses and climbs rapidly through the countryside until it reaches the Lioson d'en Bas mountain pastures. You can stop by the chalet of the same name to watch cheese being made in the age-old way – in a vat over an open wood fire.

After a short stretch on a tarmac road, the trail continues uphill to Vers les Lacs. From there, a traverse through rocks and shrubs leads to Lake Lioson (altitude: 1,850 m), where you take a break at the restaurant of the same name. The glacial lake, which was formed during the last Ice Age, is a popular destination in summer for fishing enthusiasts and in summer for ice diving fans. The trail continues along the lakeshore and then downhill towards the marshy Pra Cornet plateau.

The plateau is part of the Col des Mosses/La Lécherette mire landscape of national importance which stretches over six upland moors, hundreds of hectares of fens and multiple biotopes. Together, this collection of wetlands, pastures and meadows provide a habitat like no other for birds, butterflies, dragonflies, amphibians, reptiles and many other species. The final stage of the trail continues along the mountainside before the path turns downhill to the hamlet of La Lécherette.
