River hike: Floodplain landscape Aarau-Biberstein

Jurapark Aargau - Where beavers and orioles say good night: a hike through the rare floodplain forests of the Aare. Just outside the gates of Aarau, a beautiful natural landscape awaits you.

From Aarau to Biberstein, you hike along the rare floodplain landscape of the Aare and through the magnificent natural landscape of the floodplain protection park. A floodplain can consist of river sections with dry, sandy gravel islands as well as humid forests. What they all have in common is the natural water dynamics. This means the river has not been artificially straightened, but the water is allowed to take its course. Along the way, you might even encounter beavers and orioles. 

Upon arrival in Biberstein, we recommend a visit with coffee at the castle shop or a cool down in the BioBadi.

There is also the option to extend the floodplain hike. To do so, stay on the hiking trail and follow it all the way to Rupperswil.
Bad weather? No problem: visit the beaver and company at Naturama Aargau right at Aarau train station.
