Rathaus Inn, Safien Platz

In 1481 the settlement community built the municipality hall in Safien Platz. It is the oldest known town hall of all Walser settlements. The building is used on festival days and meetings of the valley court. It was leased out to a settlement family that undertook to follow a series of regulations concerning the maintenance and heating. The family also had to ensure stewarding during the course of the meetings. A notable situation in such a remotely located farming community of the 15th century.
Up until the fusion of the Safien municipality the council chamber served the political committees as a hall for meetings, negotiations and polling. On the field in front of the town hall the cantonal assembly of the Safien rural district was held.
