Diemtigtal House Route "Hinteres Tal"
Naturpark Diemtigtal - The municipality of Diemtigen was awarded the Louis Wakker Prize for its building culture and planning 30 years ago. The house route "Hinteres Tal" takes you to the most magnificent historical witnesses in the rear Diemtigtal.
The municipality of Diemtigen has succeeded in preserving the valley's settlement character in an exemplary manner through farsighted local planning. It was awarded the Henri-Louis Wakker Prize by the Swiss Heritage Society in 1986.
The oldest houses in the Diemtigtal date from the 16th century. However, the landscape is shaped by buildings from the second half of the 18th century and the beginning of the 19th century. The Diemtigtal owes its magnificent buildings to the collaboration of wealthy farmers and skilled craftsmen, including the famous master carpenter Hans Messerli (1720–1806).
The three house routes "Vorderes Tal", "Mittleres Tal" and "Hinteres Tal" take you to the most impressive houses and their stories.

Signalization
Follow the Diemtigtal house route from the Wiriehorn valley station (Riedli) along the valley hiking trail towards Schwenden. Through the Gandgraben, you reach Oeyen after a short ascent. Here you will find several fascinating buildings in a small area before you return to the valley hiking trail. The path continues past three impressive houses to Schwenden. At Geissboden, you walk for 250 m along the valley road and then turn off to the over 100-year-old Schwenden chapel. Right next to it is today's Hotel Kurhaus Grimmialp, which was originally built as a cure establishment for drinking and bathing treatments. Over the Schürmatte, further to Schlatti and the former Tiermatti guesthouse, you mostly walk along the valley road. At the end point, you will immediately find the last house of the hike. The path is marked with brown directional signs. The end point Tiermatti is located at a PostBus stop (check the timetable!). From here, you can also return directly to the valley hiking trail if you want to end your hike at the starting point Riedli (an additional 1 hour 20 minutes walking time).
