Leukerbad – Varen ladders – Salgesch
From Leukerbad the cultural trail towards Salgesch goes through agricultural regions, sections of woodland and past rock faces.

From the bus station in Leukerbad follow the brown culture trail signposts. We follow the distinctive rock face, where with luck one can observe wild animals. Shortly before Inden the trail follows the old railway track to the former station building, which nowadays is used as a cooperative store.
Before reaching the Varen ladders one finds a restored lime kiln which is an excellent place for a rest.
The trail then continues up the Varen ladders. Those who would prefer to avoid this part can follow the normal hiking trail.
In Varen one should not miss the view from the church of the forest of Pfyn/Finges. One reaches Salgesch after passing through the terraced vineyards. Both in Varen and Salgesch various partner companies offer wine produced using highly sustainable technology, which was awarded with the Swiss parks Label. In Salgesch a visit to the Nature and Landscape Centre with its little shop and exhibition is well worthwhile.
