Geo-Trail Escholzmatt

Theme trail
Time required: 3 hoursLength: 11.52 km

UNESCO Biosphäre Entlebuch -

Open
From various perspectives around the village of Escholzmatt, you can admire the hilly landscape with its lush green meadows and pleasantly shady forests. Inevitably, the rounded hills in the valley catch your eye, and you wonder how they might have formed.

On a three-hour well-signposted circular route, interested parties gain insight into the geology and geomorphology of the area. Along the way, four information boards explain the Alpine folding, the geology, the molasse, the ice ages, and the landscape forms. The path can also be very well explored in different stages. Starting from Escholzmatt train station, it leads over rounded mounds, through a meltwater channel, over a leveling area, and offers views into the landscape around Escholzmatt, shaped by glaciers and rivers.
