Kienberg hiking trails - Route 5

Hiking trail
Time required: 3 hours 38 minutesLength: 12.16 km

Jurapark Aargau - Route 5 of the Kienberg hiking routes connects natural gems and cultural treasures around Kienberg: a viewpoint, two ruins, and an old gypsum quarry await you.

The Kienberg+ Association has developed and consistently signposted 5 hiking routes around Kienberg. There is a suitable route for every type of hiker: whether A-B or as a circular route, with wonderful views or along historically significant ruins.

Route 5 starts towards Burgflue, where wonderful views extend to the Black Forest. It then continues south to the first of the two ruins - Heidegg. Only a few wall remains of the former castle complex are left. Visible are the deep castle moat and the castle area with traces of a tower, the enclosure, and other buildings.

The descent continues to the nature reserve in the old gypsum quarry, which today hosts numerous rare, sun-loving plant and animal species.

The next section runs along a shady forest path, with occasional beautiful views of the village of Kienberg. The route then passes by the currently hardly accessible ruins of Old Kienberg and finally ends in the village of Kienberg.
