Mountain Drive: Short Wheelchair Introductory Route Grimmialp

Naturpark Diemtigtal - The short introductory route on the Grimmialp is just the right thing to test the unfamiliar Mountain Drive vehicle and get a feel for driving off-road.

Mountain Drive is an all-terrain wheelchair specially developed for natural mountain hiking trails, coarse gravel, and steps. Since September 2021, there has been a Mountain Drive wheelchair available for rent at Camping Eggmatte on the Grimmialp.

During the short introductory route, you will encounter all types of terrain on your round and test how your vehicle works: going up and down, with parts covered with asphalt, and wider and narrower natural roads/paths.

The highlight of the round is the Schwenden chapel in the park of the Kurhaus Grimmialp hotel. A wonderful place to pause and enjoy the peace of nature. It is also worth taking a look inside the chapel. Access by wheelchair is possible. On the way from the chapel, you will also come across panels of the Albert Schweitzer Path. They tell about the life of probably the most famous guest at Grimmialp.

Note: This route has only been tested for all-terrain wheelchairs of the "Mountain Drive" brand.

Safety advices

On the short section of road from the campsite to the junction "Hotel Kurhaus Grimmialp" and on the last stretch, you are on a road that is used by cars. Please drive on the side of the road and make sure you are seen by traffic.

Signalization

You leave Camping Eggmatte on the access road and turn left at the end. Please stay on the left side of the road here, as oncoming traffic otherwise cannot see you. After the large curve, turn right and follow the arrow "Hotel Kurhaus Grimmialp." At the next opportunity turn left. The path takes you through the park of the Kurhaus Grimmialp hotel to the Schwenden chapel. A wonderful place to pause and enjoy the peace of nature. You drive a short stretch back the same way but turn left at the first opportunity. The path takes you past the former drinking hall to the Kurhaus Grimmialp hotel. You now follow a short stretch of the "Albert Schweitzer themed path," which leads you back to the road. Turn right here until you drive back into the entrance of Camping Eggmatte.
