ViaJacobi Stage 30 (Swiss Mobility 4)
Naturpark Gantrisch - With the capital at your back, the path leads through forests and villages, always with a view of the striking Bernese trio Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau.
The journey is the destination, which also applies to this section of the Via Jacobi, which starts at the Bear Pit in Bern, first follows the Aare upstream, and soon leads along the Gurten at mid-height. After a steep climb from Kehrsatz, we finally reach the park area at Englisberg. Mostly ascending through cool forests and occasionally descending to the hamlets and villages of Muhlern with the sturdy farmhouses, the route always heads towards the monastery village Rüeggisberg. The view opens repeatedly towards the Gürbetal and in the background to the eternal snow of the Upper Lands trio Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau. A lengthy rest is especially worthwhile at the Tavel monument near Leuenberg. At Mättiwil, our path then merges into the Jakob route coming from Riggisberg. The view to the south towards the Gantrisch range now fully opens.
The route can be extended via the viewing balcony to Rüeggisberg with its famous monastery ruins. The additional walking time is approximately 15 minutes.
