Gruyères Castle
Nesting in the Fribourg Pre-alps, the medieval city of Gruyères is the ideal jump off point for hikers. The castle dominates a green hill at the foot of the Moléson and at the junction of the Jogne and Intyamon Valleys. Its walls swim in legends, its garden and its rich collections bare witness to a life and culture that has continuously inhabited the region for the last eight centuries. Continuing its tradition as an artistic crossroads, the castle plays host to art exhibits and big cultural meetings at the heart of a grandiose natural panorama.

On this day route, you follow the eastern flank of the Längenberg on natural paths with slight ups and downs to the Gürbebadi in Mühlethurnen. Picnic areas, fire pits, benches, and several farm shops recommend themselves for a break.

In autumn 2023, a landslide area reactivated in the Ahörndler region near Wattenwil. Since then, landslides have occurred repeatedly, most recently in mid-February 2024. The municipality of Wattenwil has now evacuated and closed the area due to the existing landslide hazard. There is no detour.
The Gurnigelwald-Gürbe bike route leads through an unknown, vast forest area. After a steady ascent, the highlight at the Gurnigel mountain lodge is reached. Afterwards follows a descent that makes biker hearts beat faster.
