Baderhaus
Regionaler Naturpark Schaffhausen - The Baderhaus is an important part of Neunkirch's history and invites visitors on a journey through the centuries.
From the 15th century until around 1900, the house housed a public bath, making it a significant piece of social and historical heritag
The location of the Baderhaus near the lower of the two town fountains is due to its high water consumption.
The reason is as follows: the "Bader", known in the Middle Ages as the “doctor of the common people”, offered a wide range of services — from treating minor wounds and setting broken bones to cupping, bloodletting, and personal hygiene, which was of great hygienic importance in a time without bathrooms.
The house therefore had a semi-public function, though the exact use of the rooms can only be speculated.
What is certain is that the Bader lived with his family above the bath area. Even today, niches and cupboards in the rooms indicate where tinctures and other tools were stored.
In 2018, the then-vacant part of the house was purchased by the current owner. With great dedication, he saved the Baderhaus from decay and led it into a sustainable future.
