10 Belpberg Gürbe Gravel Loop: Belp – Wattenwil – Belp

Bicycle tour
Time required: 3 hours 5 minutesLength: 42.01 km

Naturpark Gantrisch - The gravel loop route leads from Belp over a steep climb on forest paths up to the Chutzen viewpoint. Then it goes via Gerzensee to Wattenwil and returns flat along the Gürbe. The route runs on side roads and largely on forest, gravel, and field paths, and is partly quite bumpy and dusty. The view of the Bernese Alps and Prealps as well as the cooling opportunities along the Gürbe complete the gravel fun.

From Belp, the route climbs on forest paths up to the Chutzen viewpoint at 882 m above sea level. The panoramic view of the Bernese 4000ers, the Pre-Alps, the Emmental, and the Bernese Midlands compensates for this initial effort. After a rapid descent, you follow side roads along Gerzensee via Kirchdorf to Noflen. A short descent through the forest and a dusty gravel section in the valley floor along the Mösche leads into the village of Seftigen. On the main road through the underpass to after the Tamoil gas station, then turn right over the railway crossing past the church center and again right toward Gurzelen, then the settlement area is passed. There follows a short gravel section to the small village of Gurzelen, where the route passes the church on a side road toward Wattenwil. After a refreshment in one of the local inns, you follow about 3 kilometers of the official bike route 74. Then from Mühlethurnen, you consistently follow the Gürbe on a bumpy field path southward until the path ends. Now cross the bridge and the main road and follow the gravel path to the Lohnstorf bridge. Here, as well as 5 minutes later at the Gürbebadi in Mühlethurnen, there is an opportunity to cool down in the fresh water of the tamed mountain stream. A long final stretch through the Gürbe valley floor over dusty and partly bumpy gravel and field paths leads via Kaufdorf and Toffen back to the starting point at Belp station.
