15 Lower Hilly Area Gravel Loop: Schwarzwasser - Längenberg

Bicycle tour
Time required: 4 hours 30 minutesLength: 50.47 km

Naturpark Gantrisch - The circular route leads from Swiss Bike Park in Oberried via Niederscherli, crossing the Schwarzwasser bridge, up to Schwarzenburg.
Then it goes eastwards again over the Schwarzwasser and through the hilly area of Fultigen and then northwards over the scenic Längenberg back to the starting point.

From Swiss Bike Park in Oberried, you ride down into Grabemüli and then up again to Niederscherli, to the first viewpoint on the terrace of the Weidli water reservoir.

The altitude gained towards Mittelhäusern and into the Schwarzwasser valley is quickly covered on the paved road. The route leads through the valley over the old Schwarzwasser bridge. The flowing water has sculpted impressive shapes of cracks and grooves in the sandstone plates of the riverbed. A climb of 180 meters in elevation via Aekenmatt and Steinenbrünnen leads to the Wahlern church, one of the best-known baroque wedding churches in the Bern region. After a short descent you reach Schwarzenburg.

Now you follow westwards the Veloland route no. 62, crossing the Schwarzwasser via Rossgraben bridge and ascending to Vorderfultigen. A steep descent follows down into the Bütschelbach valley. A sweat-inducing ascent brings gravel bikers up to the viewpoint and the inn on Bütschelegg. In constant ups and downs over fields and through patches of forest, you now ride northwards over the Längenberg. The city of Bern, Ulmizberg and Gurten come into view. Before Oberscherli, you leave the hilly area via a steep farm road section and get through the Hübeli into Schlatt. Before Niederscherli you pass the football field of FC Sternenberg, where some footballers, like Christoph Spycher, started their careers. Via Gasel and Mengestorf, you ascend back to the starting point.
