About the castle

Jurapark Aargau - A particularly varied hike across the region follows the signposted hiking trail network from Salhöhe via Burgflue-Wittnau-Homberg to Gipf-Oberfrick.

This route combines nature, history and enjoyment! From the Salhöhe mountain pass, it leads to impressive viewpoints, through unique rock formations and past historic castle ruins. Whether taking a break at the fire pit on the Burgflue, a detour to the ruins of Alt Homberg and Alt Tierstein, or dining at the Landgasthof Krone – this hike offers something for everyone and showcases the diversity of Jurapark Aargau.

Route description: From the Salhöhe mountain pass, follow the yellow signs towards the Burg viewpoint, which you reach after a short ascent. The Burgflue hosts a unique flora and fauna of rocks and invites you to linger thanks to a great fire pit. The descent is via the "Juratritt", a staircase through the steep rock area. Over the plateau of Altenberg you reach Wittnau, where you can optionally get off and dine at the Landgasthof Krone. Those who wish can climb through the vineyards up to the Alt Homberg ruin. The route continues – always following the hiking trail – to the Alt Tierstein ruin and through the orchard-rich landscape into the village of Gipf-Oberfrick.
