Pascal Tercier

Pascal Tercier has had a life-long passion for farming and livestock. Having worked on a series of mountain farms in his youth, the former lumberjack finally became master of his own 40-hectare farm, in Charmey, which also came with 160 hectares of mountain pastures.
Pascal uses only the most appropriate farming techniques, even if some may be considered rather unconventional. On his farm, which has been certified organic for over 15 years, he uses homeopathic medicine to treat sick cattle, bans cowbells, and includes cross-breeds in his herd.
His suckler cows calve in early winter so that the young are sufficiently strong by the time summer comes around to make the traditional ascent to the mountain pastures. Every animal spends two summers on the high-altitude farm before leaving Charmey. The meat they produce carries the bio Suisse and pasture-fed labels.

Plan de l’Ouge Farm

The Plan de l’Ouge certified organic farm deep in the La Torneresse valley of L’Etivaz is run by Maurice and Sylviane Henchoz, together with their sons Stéphane and Nicolas.
In 1997 Maurice Henchoz converted his family farm to organic, which meant abandoning the conventional practice of harvesting meadow grass for silage. In summer, the milk from his dairy cows is used to make the Alp cheese L’Etivaz AOP, while in winter it is transformed into the farmhouse’s signature Plan de l’Ouge cheese.
The herd is made up of around 50 suckler cows and 30 or so young calves. The Henchoz also sell organically reared pigs and weaned grazing calves direct from their farm.

Pontet Bridge

It can already be observed on a map from 1578. Threatening to crumble and fall, the bridge was restored 1993. During this restoration work the original paving was rediscovered revealing ruts characteristic of horse-drawn cart passage.

Prareman Sheep Farm

Maurane and Malik Bajrami are famed for their delicious lamb meat products. On their sheep farm, at the entry to the Intyamon valley, the lambs are reared naturally on their mother’s milk.
Malik was 14 when he began keeping sheep. When he met his future wife Maurane, Malik found a soulmate who embraced his passion. Initially, the couple had a handful of ewes, which they also entered in agricultural shows. Over time, the couple have increased their flock.
Standing at an altitude of 800 metres, high above the village of Enney, the Prareman sheep farm is today home to 260 ewes and around 500 lambs. In summer, some 50 ewes graze on the high alpine pastures, while the rest of the flock spend their time on the grassy hills surrounding the farm. In winter, Maurane and Malik feed their sheep fodder produced on the farm.
All Prareman sheep farm products have the Terroir Fribourg and IP Suisse labels. Meat products can be ordered directly from Maurane, or from the farm’s social media

Rossinière

Fires have ravaged Rossinière three times in its history. Despite the fires, the village is still home to magnificent 17th and 18th century wooden buildings. The most well-known is the Grand Chalet, classified as a monument of national importance. This imposing 1754 log chalet was the home of the famous painter Balthus from 1976-2001. Don’t miss the the church and vicarage.
With its dozens of agricultural operations centered around dairy production, particularly L’Etivaz AOC cheese, as well as sheep and goat cheese, Rossinière is a idyllic rural community. Another highlight, is the organic farm that operates year round from the Mont alpages (alpine farms), producing goat cheese and aromatic plant cultures.

Rougemont

Rougemont gets its name from the red rocks on its northern slopes. The town was founded at the beginning of the 11th century by Cluny monks who built their priory here. Until the end of the 19th century, livestock and milk production made up most of the local economy. With the arrival of the railroad in 1905, the area opened progressively to tourism. Rougement and Flendruz are home to large groups of farms and barns with sculpted facades and religiously inspired painted inscriptions.
Tourism has become the main economy of the area. The Golden Pass takes skiers who take to the new Videmanette ski-lift, a skiable area connected to Saanen and Gstaad.

Saint-Blaise Oratory

The oratory, dedicated to Saint Blaise, was built in 1690. When Foot-and-mouth disease plagued the region, wiping out entire herds, the cows of Crésuz remained untouched. The chapel is a thank you for the preservation of the herds who then followed the the upper trail from the other side of the mountain (Botterens) to the Jogne valley. The only route at that time.

Tâna Waterfall and Cave

Just above the village of Grandvillard, the Tâna stream traverses layers of vertical limestone rock before falling dozens of meters. This spectacular waterfall continues to wear away at the rock, which sometimes causes rock slides. A portion of the Tâna’s water is caught and sent through turbines to produce electricity. During periods of high water levels, as in August 2005, the river can overflow its banks.
This area, with its small cave dedicated to Notre-Dame of Lourdes, converted in 1958, is also a pilgrimage site. Numerous visitors come here to pray in the fresh air.
